It's important to point out that you can't register a web site with all search sites. For instance, let's look at AOL and MSN. AOL search results are actually derived from a distribution agreement with Google. And, MSN search results are derived from a distribution agreement with Yahoo's Inktomi. As such, Engine Registration keeps track of all search engine relationships and we register your site to the main databases that power all of the major search sites. How many pages will you register for me? We will register up to 20 pages of your web site. If you have more than 20 pages that you'd like registered, please contact info@engineregistration.com. Do you use XML feeds? Definately. We will provide you with a Google Sitemap XML file and then add the file and your web site to Google's XML feed. Additionally, we will provide you with a Yahoo URL List and add your web site to Yahoo's feed. How long does it take to register my web site? When you sign up we start the registration process within 5 business days. Once we start the registration process, the typical site is registered in 2 business days. Because certain search engine guidelines limit the number of urls that we can add during a 24 hour period, larger sites may take up to 5 days to complete. Once you register my web site, how long will it take before I start appearing in search engine result pages? When a web site is registered with a search engine, that engine will "index" your web site by sending what is commonly known as a "spider" or a "crawler" to your site. The time it takes for your site to be "indexed", "spidered" or "crawled" varies by engine but typically takes as little as a week to as much as a month. How will I know what pages you've registered and when you've completed the registration process? Easy. We will provide you with our Registration Status Report upon completion. This will detail the exact urls that we've registered. Do you register my site with any directories? Most definitely. We register all sites with the Open Directory. Non-profit and government web sites will also be registered with Yahoo free of charge. For all commercial sites to be registered with Yahoo's Directory, Yahoo charges a $299 yearly fee. The Open Directory is one of the most important registrations we will make for you. The Open Directory is a primary resource used by several top search engines. Plus, the greatest benefit of the Open Directory is that once you are listed, search engines like Google and Yahoo commonly visit the directory. Google and Yahoo's "spiders" will "crawl" the directory and "index" sites that are listed. In this fashion, your site will have the added benefit of being "crawled" on a regular basis well after Engine Registration's one time search engine registration. Why does Engine Registration make such a big deal out of not using black listed techniques? Search engine SPAM (just like email SPAM) has become a major problem. Search engines constantly get bombarded with web site registrations. As such, each engine has published guidelines that govern proper use. Engine Registration researches successful techniques and abides by all guidelines. Using a service that doesn't adhere to these guidelines can have a devastating effect on your web site.
